TV Show, Kids Behind Bars Documentary

I think this show was to elicit sympathy and compassion for these young violent criminals. Many people believe youths should not be tried and sentenced as adults even though they committed adult crimes and were just as deadly as any adult criminal.

I believe these youths Should be tried and sentenced as adults, especially if they're violent.

However, I believe the law should go one step further: The law should also hold the parents of these youths culpable and sterilize them so that they won't produce anymore offspring.

In many cases, the "fathers" of these youths were in the picture ONLY at the time of conception and the "mothers" raised these youths on her own. DNA tests should be done on the young criminals to determine who their fathers are.

This situation in which the crime rate of youths is rising and increasing is also the fault of society. We allow anyone to have children, even those people who do not have the moral turpitude, strength of character, financial responsibility, strong sense of civil responsibility, and in many cases, the intelligence and/or desire to raise children.

Why is that? To own a vehicle, we require owners and drivers to take a test to show they understand the laws of operating a vehicle. We require them to show financial responsibility by showing proof of vehicle insurance. We do this in many other areas of our everday life. Why not require the same of people BEFORE they produce children?

Allowing people who are ill-equipped to raise children to have children at will shows a total lack of social responsibility by society at large. We are permitting children to be brought into an environment that is cruel. They grow up without love, without guidance, in many instances they are starving for affection, for food, for shelter, for their own place in a world that doesn't seem to care. And we wonder why the youth violent crime rate is rising.
